Research on Toxicity Tests

 

Health food safety assessment is divided into four categories, which are mainly intended for long-term consumption and manufacturing and processing safety considerations. Therefore, the consumption purposes and methods, manufacturing and processing methods, processes, final product forms, and food intake are all factors considered for classification. The various safety evaluation items are as follows:

Category I: Those who fall under any of the two conditions below are exempted from further toxicity tests.

(1)  Product raw materials are provided for traditional consumption and in the form of processed foods.

(2)  Products possess complete toxicology safety related academic literature reports and records of food consumption. In addition, the raw materials, components, and manufacturing processes are completely consistent with those mentioned in the academic literature reports.

 

Category II: For product raw materials for traditional food consumption, rather than provided through usual forms of food processing, toxicity test data containing the following items should be presented:

(1)    Genotoxicity tests

(2)    28-day feeding toxicity tests

 

Category III: For product raw materials not falling under traditional consumption, toxicity test data containing the following items should be presented:

(1)  Genotoxicity tests

(2)  90-day feeding toxicity tests

(3)  Teratogenicity tests

 

Category IV: For product raw materials not falling under traditional consumption but contain carcinogenic items, toxicity test data containing the following items should be presented:

(1)    Genotoxicity tests

(2)    90-day feeding toxicity tests

(3)    Teratogenicity tests

(4)    Carcinogenicity tests

(5)    Breeding tests
